After installation of Android Studio and all its updates of more than 1GB, there is NO SDK folder only! It turned out to be in this path – C:UsersShivuAppDataLocalAndroidSdkplatform-tools Then, I copied the apk file to this directory, but I did not get what this author is talking about – Run Android Virtual Device Manager (AVD) > Start emulator – How to go to this path or where it will be found?

do we need to keep the virtual device open while we install? will the app be there if we close the vm, or do we have to keep reinstalling? thanks.

    • Tan Woon How

It will be there after you installed, and yes Emulator needed to be started

      • Jo

thanks for the quick reply. how do we update the app? do we need to uninstall through adb uninstall?

        • Tan Woon How

Err.. i never keep it till update. May be you let me know. are you trying to play games on emulator?:).

          • Jo

Yes i am. I found how to ‘update’ the apk by: adb install -r apk.apk.
This will replace the apk with the same name.

Now i have to find out how to install google apps and google play so i can get my account synced in the app.

Cool. And thanks for the info. There is another way. If you dont mind to use genymotion emulator you could actually install google play service on emulator with few easy step check out this

          • Jo

have you tried genymotion? is it completely free and doesn’t force you to download unwanted apps? that’s what happened with bluestacks and andyroid.

          • Tan Woon How

Yes i do. I use genymotion for my development and no unwanted apps but now i mostly use android emulator 2 is getting better and is free ☺

    cd “C:UsersEvgeniaAppDataLocalAndroidsdkplatform-tools”
the filename directory name or volume label syntax is incorrect

    • Tan Woon How

i think you got to make sure you have the “Android SDK Platform-tools” installed, if you’ve installed but still cant find where it is then you try to search you computer with this name “adb.exe”.

My guess is you might installed you sdk in different location during fresh installation but when install new update it actually goes to other location you specified earlier which goes to this location “C:UsersEvgeniaAppDataLocalAndroidsdk” that happened to me when i do fresh setup in my machine.
