Hi – I have just installed Android Studio to my Windows 8 PC and in trying this tutorial the Build process has so far taken about 30 minutes and it hasnt completed yet. Surely this is not the way it is supposed to work ?

    Thanks – Paul

      30 mins is too long!

Do you have enough memory to run android studio? you try close any running application and try again. I have experienced this when i run in wins 7 32 bit in macbook pro. and the machine only has 2gb usable RAM. after i upgrade to wins 7 64 bit and my machine can use up to 4gb RAM then my problem gone.

Also see any error in logcat. and make sure you have internet connection when you run the application as gradle need to stay online unless you manually configure to make it able to compile in offline.

      Good luck!

        Hi Tan.

Thanks for the response. I will check out what you say especially about the available RAM. I am about to give up on this Android Studio. Has taken me 2 days to install and get up to my present state. I had to do the JAVA_HOME variable thing and get the right java loaded and then the Gradle problem because my first test projects were using a lower version of java and when I loaded the higher version the Gradle had an issue with my earlier work so I had to delete the earlier work (not a problem as it was just test stuff) then realised about Gradle and the internet connection so sorted that out and now this. But I am no quitter. Coding is all about overcoming issues after all. Will let you know how it goes.

My PC has 4 gb RAM available.

I am running 0.4.6 so I am going to upgrade to 0.5.4

      • Paul Hinrichsen

I have upgraded to 0.5.7 which requires JRE: 1.7.0_55 while I am running JDK 1.8.0_55, i am new to the Java environment so this makes no sense to me but so long as its ok. After 20 minutes its still “Scanning files to index”.

Hi Tan, and thanks for your Android Studio tutorial.

I have followed your instructions word for word. When I click on Run (the green arrow) I am getting the following error message:

org.gradle.tooling.GradleConnectionException: Could not execute build using Gradle installation ‘C:Userslcarbonaro.gradlewrapperdistsgradle-1.8-binvruqmccc8532n7gr46qavsii8gradle-1.8’.: Could not execute build using Gradle installation ‘C:Userslcarbonaro.gradlewrapperdistsgradle-1.8-binvruqmccc8532n7gr46qavsii8gradle-1.8’.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks again.

I added a JAVA_HOME path variable (under File, Settings, Path Variables) and that seems to have resolved the issue.
